Who we are
ShotFile is a macOS application developed and operated independently. If you have any questions about this policy contact info@shotfile.app.
What we collect on the website
When you visit shotfile.app we use Vercel Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. This collects anonymous data including pages visited, country, device type, and referrer. No cookies are used. No data is sold or shared with third parties for advertising.
By downloading and using ShotFile you agree to the Terms of Service and End User License Agreement. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of these terms.
What stays on your Mac
Your screenshots, folder choices, and clipboard history stay on your Mac. ShotFile does not upload them.
Text recognition (OCR)
If you use text recognition, ShotFile reads text from your screenshots entirely on your Mac using Apple's built-in Vision framework. There is no OCR API, no server, and no network request involved, the image and the recognised text never leave your device, and nothing is sent anywhere or stored by us.
Payments and licensing (Lemon Squeezy)
Purchases are handled by our payment processor, Lemon Squeezy, who act as merchant of record. When you buy a licence, Lemon Squeezy collects and holds your payment and billing details (such as your email, country, and purchase history) under their own privacy policy. Your card details are entered on Lemon Squeezy's checkout and never touch ShotFile's own servers, ShotFile does not see or store them.
To unlock the app, ShotFile sends only your licence key (and a device instance identifier it generates) to Lemon Squeezy's licensing API to activate and periodically validate it. No screenshots, files, or personal data beyond the licence key are involved. You can read Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy at lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.
Network use in the app
ShotFile makes these kinds of network request:
- Update check: reads GitHub for available app updates.
- Install ping: once on first launch, sends app version, device architecture (e.g. arm64), and a random anonymous ID generated on your device to shotfile.app. We use this only to count installs and versions. The ping does not repeat.
- Licence activation and validation: sends your licence key and a device instance identifier to Lemon Squeezy to unlock the app and confirm it is still valid. No card or payment details are sent by the app.
We do not store your IP address in our install database. Hosting providers may process connection metadata in their own logs.
Cookies
shotfile.app does not use cookies.

Your rights
Under Swiss data protection law (nDSG) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold. For questions about the install ping or this policy, contact info@shotfile.app.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site or app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
